The Union Station Grill occupies the address that a hotel called the Lenni Lenape was built at in 1854, later named the Lee House. The building was renovated in 1922, renamed the Wardell Hotel (acknowledging both Warren County and the Delaware River) and purchased by the Kobble family in 1933.

In 1967, a freight train derailed at Union Square, crashing two cars through the side of the Wardell Hotel River Lounge. Within weeks a fire completely destroyed the remaining structure. The Kobble family preserved and rebuilt the restaurant. The Kobbles' completely renovated the old building,
and in 2003 opened as the Wardell Steakhouse and Raw Bar restaurant.
The train car is former Penn Central coach #1420.

In February 2006,
Carl & Meredith Fortin opened the restaurant as
The Union Station Grill
and currently own and run the business.
